Belén Millán
BIO
As an Andalusian-American artist my work references a range of influences from the South of Spain and upstate New York — living between the Mediterranean and the Catskill Mountains has embedded in me an iconography of natural references, opposites that come together, providing a background for creative self-expression.
I find drawing different mediums together something natural, probably because of my background. I work mostly on Encaustics and Mixed Media (Drawing, Painting, Collage, Etching, Mono-types…).
My career track spans 13 years in the New York Advertising industry with agencies such as Y&R or Draftfcb. I pursued Art graduate courses at Hunter College and art classes at the Arts Student League of New York and Woodstock School of Arts. I graduated cum laude from Mount Holyoke College with a Bachelor of Arts and hold a MIA with a concentration in Advertising/Communications from Columbia University.
I exhibit regularly in the US (NY, NM, CA, FL) and Europe (check out Latest News!) and teach Encaustics to artists (check out Workshops).
My work has also been featured in Encaustic in the 21st Century http://www.schifferbooks.com/
